Jim writing CALMING MY RESTLESS MIND

Well Father,

I wouldn’t exist today unless you made me,
I began as a joyful thought in your heart,
Before the creation of the world.
The universe is the home
you made for me to enjoy.

ME AND MY SHADOW

I love my shadow,
I hate my mirror.
My mirror shows the real thing,
Fat and loose.
My shadow is my friend.
In the early morning
With the sun at my back
My shadow is eight feet tall
Slim and trim.

I read this poem to my buddy, Darrell Scott, founder of Rachel's Challenge, who has a gift for writing poems that rhyme. My poems have to be free verse because I can't make them rhyme like Darrell. Anyway, he composed a poem in response to my poem that was really good.

ILLUSION OR REALITY

Though I am a little overweight
My shadow is good to me
Cause early in the morning hours
It’s tall and trim, you see.

It changes shapes throughout the day
This shadowy protrusion
But now and then, when it is thin
I love this kind of illusion

My mirror on the other hand
Reveals reality
Reflecting just exactly what
I didn’t want to see!

So do I want to know what’s real
Or do I choose the fake
Illusion is the choice I fear
That most of us would take

And so we chose to fill our days
Surrounded by illusion
And then we wonder why we live
A life of such confusion

THE LEAVEN IN THE LOAF

Uncle Jim,

“Do you believe in a literal thousand year reign of Christ on the earth?”
Used to
Until they told me Kennedy might be the antichrist
Opps
Until they told me maybe it is Kissinger, Saddam, Bush I, or Prince Charles
Until a NASA rocket scientist wrote
“88 Reasons Why The Rapture Will be in 1988”
Oops again
He tried again, “89 Reasons Why The Rapture Will be in 1989”
Maybe 1990?
